Position: A-Level Mathematics Teacher
Duty Station: USA River, Arusha Region

The School of St Jude is a charity funded NGO that provides a FREE, high-quality education to almost 1,800 primary and secondary children from the poorest communities in Arusha.

We are seeking a competent, knowledgeable and energetic individual to fill the position above based in Arusha, Tanzania at the School of St Jude.

Job Purpose:

To provide a high level of education to the school’s children and help them learn new ideas and concepts to ensure the students meet the required standards of the Tanzanian education system.To contribute to raising standards of student attainmentTo share and support the school’s mission, vision and core values.
Teacher will:

Teach one or more National Curriculum subjects to students in one or more Year levelsPlan lessons in line with National Curriculum syllabus documents and in accordance with the school policyProvide a learning environment which allows students to learn effectively and in which they are inspired to learnMonitor and record the progress of the students and encourage them to develop and fulfil their academic potentialKeep up to date with developments in the subject area, with new resources, teaching methodologies and national objectives.Liaise and collaborate with colleaguesFully support the work of the department and fulfil the school’s mission and purpose
Main duties and responsibilities:
Teaching:

Develop schemes of work (in collaboration with the HoD and other members of the department)Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to a range of classesPrepare and maintain a classroom which inspires the students to learnDevise and write new curriculum materialsIdentify, develop, select and use a range of different teaching and learning resources and equipmentUse relevant technology to support the teaching and learning in the classroomBe fully aware of the students’ needs and support them individuallEstablish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities within the lesson

Assessment:

Mark work, provide appropriate feedback and maintain records of student progress and developmentPrepare homework and class work assignments and assessment tasks in line with school policyProvide timely and appropriate feedback to students in a way which will inform their learningRecognize that assessment is on-going and should be carried out continuouslyMaintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and developmentFully prepare students for all external examinationsProfessional Development:

Research new topics and maintain up-to-date subject knowledgeBe prepared to learn how to use relevant technology to improve the quality of teaching and learningBe prepared to learn from others and be a lifelong learnerUndergo regular observations and participate in regular in-service training (INSET) as part of continuing professional development (CPD)Participate in ESL lessons and any other activities organized by Teacher Mentors
Student management:

Manage pupil behavior in the classroom and throughout the school and apply appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehaviorMaintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school and apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessaryCall parents (in collaboration with the HoD) when there is an academic concern
Whole school and departmental responsibilities:

Provide support to the HoD and other members of the department in all aspects of curriculum deliveryTake part in peer assessment – observing and providing feedback to colleaguesParticipate in departmental meetings and any whole school eventsMeet twice monthly with the HoDTake responsibility for any text books or other teaching resources used within lessonsPrepare suitable and appropriate cover lessons which can be used when absent and to monitor their userCover for absent colleagues when requiredMaintain a tidy and well organized classroom and report any damage as appropriateAttend staff meetings, committee meetings and level meetingsCarry out duties at break-timeParticipate in and organize extracurricular activities, such as outings, social activities and sporting events.To perform any other duties as you may be assigned by your Supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills & Competence:

Bachelor degree of Education.3-4 Years working experience in teaching.Good communication skills.Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting/environment.
